Behind the Scenes: How I Curated the Softest Brand Launch of My Life

There are certain moments you plan for, and then there are moments that feel like they were planning you. Our Waiting to Exhale launch weekend was both. It was one part vision, one part execution, and one part divine alignment. A soft, deeply feminine celebration of warmth, joy, emotional safety, and the friendship-centered community I’ve always wanted to create.

People saw the photos and the beautiful setup, but today I want to share the story behind it. Because this wasn’t just an event. This was the beginning of a brand era — a declaration of softness, ease, and intention.

Here is what it took to curate the softest launch of my life.

It started with an intention, not a theme.

Before any décor decisions, menus, or locations, I asked myself one question:

How do I want women to feel?

Not how I wanted the event to look.

Not what content I wanted to create.

Not what brands I wanted to feature.

But how I wanted every woman in that room to experience her own softness.

I wanted the energy to feel warm, grounding, feminine, and deeply soothing. I wanted it to feel like a breath — an exhale. And from that intention, every detail was born.

The color palette had a purpose.

Soft mauve. Warm brown. Cream accents. Rose gold touches.

Every shade you saw was chosen intentionally to evoke calm. These are the colors that feel like breathwork. Like slow mornings. Like quiet confidence. Like the softness Black women are so often denied but deserve desperately.

The palette whispered,

Sit down

Breathe

You can be yourself here

And that energy set the tone for everything else.

I curated a sensory experience, not just décor.

Soft life is sensory.

It is the candlelight glow.

It is the warmth of a plush blanket.

It is the way a glass feels in your hand.

It is the sound of quiet laughter filling a room.

I wanted the event to feel felt, not just seen.

So we created a multi-sensory environment:

Lighting: warm, low, golden

Textures: soft throws, cozy seating, satin details

Scents: clean, light, therapeutic

Food: comforting, intentional, rooted in home

Sound: soft playlists, soulful melodies

Every detail was chosen to invite presence.

And yes, even the socks and blankets were intentional.

People smiled when they saw the blankets and cozy socks laid across the seating, but that was one of the most important parts of the entire event. I wanted women to walk in and immediately feel held. Not impressed. Not “on.” Not guarded. Just held.

Softness is physical. Comfort is emotional.

When a woman feels warm and safe, her spirit relaxes. Her breath deepens. Her shoulders drop.

The socks and blankets said:

You are safe here

You can breathe here

You don’t have to perform here

Those small details transformed the room from an event into a sanctuary. They softened the energy and created an atmosphere where vulnerability, laughter, and connection flowed naturally.

The gifts were chosen with heart, not hype.

Every brand partner meant something to me. Black Girl Vitamins, BLK+GRN, Beloved Box, Harlem Candle Co — these are brands I actually use, love, and share.

I curated gifts that reflect what softness looks and feels like in my life:

Wellness

Care

Nourishment

Quality

Intention

I wanted women to leave with items that wouldn’t get tossed aside, but would actually support their emotional and physical wellbeing.

The activities were designed to create real connection.

Waiting to Exhale was not meant to be a passive event. It was interactive, engaging, and deeply personal.

The “Let Go” exercise

The shared stories

These moments weren’t accidental. They were designed to slow everyone down. To open hearts. To create organic connection.

My goal was to make every woman feel seen and soothed — without forcing vulnerability, but still inviting it gently.

I paid attention to the emotional choreography.

The flow of the event mattered as much as the décor.

I wanted everyone to arrive, settle into the softness, and then open up naturally. So the evening had an emotional rhythm:

Arrival

Warmth

Comfort

Connection

Release

Joy

Reflection

By the time we reached the peak moments, the energy in the room felt safe and expansive. You could feel the softness settling across everyone.

The softness was intentional, but the magic was natural.

There are things you can plan, and then there are things that happen on their own because the energy is right.

The laughter

The tears

The dancing

The deep conversations

The hugs between women who had never met

The honesty

The joy

You cannot force moments like that.

You can only create the environment for them to happen.

And they happened beautifully.

This launch was a promise to myself.

A promise to lead with softness.

A promise to choose joy.

A promise to stop performing strength all the time.

A promise to build community around ease and intention.

Waiting to Exhale was the softest launch of my life because it reflected the woman I am becoming — not the woman I used to be.

Soft

Grounded

Aligned

Liberated

Intentional

This was not just an event.

This was a lifestyle declaration.

What’s next

This launch planted the seeds for what Restore Soulful Retreats will continue to be:

A sanctuary for Black women

A place to breathe

A place to reconnect with self

A place for friendship, luxury, ease, and transformation

As we move into our next retreats — Martha’s Vineyard, Sedona, Napa Valley, Tanzania — this is the energy I’m bringing with me.

Soft.

Warm.

Feminine.

Intentional.

Grounded.

Restorative.

Everything I’ve always wanted to offer, now elevated.

And I can’t wait for you to experience every moment with me.
